HFCF Annual Pony Penning Event
The HFCF Annual Pony Penning Event is held during the last week of September (sometimes heading into October). Please keep in mind that adoptions may be requested year round! The HFCF hosts the Pony Penning Event in order to promote the Chincoteague Pony breed. Unlike the real-life Pony Penning, the HFCF gathers up the ponies on Assateague Island to avoid the mayhem of the Wild Pony Swim. From there, participants may looks at the ponies, evaluate them (with their own vet or our on-site vets), sponsor them, and even adopt them. There is no difference adopting a Chincoteague Pony in April from adopting a pony from this Pony Penning Event. This event is for promotional and fund raising purposes. That being said, the adoption process is the same. Please read about the adoption process below before adopting any pony from the HFCF.

Adopting a Chincoteague Pony from the HFCF
The HFCF does not take adoption lightly, so please read this section carefully.
As stated above, a pony may be adopted at any time from the HFCF, whether there is an active Pony Penning Event taking place or not. If there is a pony you find on HFCF grounds that you are interested in that is NOT posted anywhere on this site or on the Pony Penning thread, feel free to bring it to our attention. We support adoption 100% and we will do everything we can to help you find your perfect pony.
Please keep the following in mind when adopting:
- HFCF ponies are never allowed to leave Horses Forever under any circumstance.
- If you sell your pony, please notify the chairman of the HFCF via PM or email. The contract you sign (below) always applies to an HFCF pony and supercedes all member applied contracts throughout the horses life.
- If you do not want your pony anymore and can't find a home, please notify the chairman of the HFCF via PM or email. Please include any training the pony has experienced in order for us to find a new home for him/her.
- Before finalizing any adoption, you will be required to sign the contract at the bottom of the Adoption Form.

I agree that if I am ever found guilty of abusing this horse, am completely inactive, or I decide to quit Horses Forever for whatever reason, I will give the horse back to the HF Chincoteague Foundation without argument. If I choose to leave HF, I WILL notify the HF Chincoteague Foundation and turn the horse over to them. If i sell this horse, I will alert the new owner AND the HF Chincoteague Foundation that this horse is an adopted pony. I will never export this pony. I will never sell this horse outside of Horses Forever. I understand that the HFCF herd is HF Officer monitored and if any of the above is not honoured, I am prepared to face appropriate action and punishment.
